How many times have we heard: “That’s how we do things!”? This statement reflects institutional biases that lurk in our organizations.

Join fellow Madison-area professionals, Friday, June 7, as Step Up: Equity Matters delves deep into the biases that perpetuate workplace inequities. Deconstructing Institutional Bias, a Step Up Workshop, will teach you how to recognize biases within your business that create barriers for equity and give you the know-how to address and challenge them. You’ll leave energized and equipped to make your company a more inclusive and equitable organization.

Lead Facilitator Carolina Bailey will guide you through this in-depth workshop along with Amy Kesling. As a language instructor who earned her graduate degrees in Colombia (native country), France and the US, Bailey is actively participating in initiatives helping improve the environment for diverse populations in academic settings. Bailey has been working with the Step Up: Equity Matters team since Fall of 2015 and has been instrumental in the development the new Deconstructing Systematic Biases workshop.

Facilitator Amy Kesling loves building systems that work for people. Her background in organizational development and leadership in the nonprofit community give Amy a unique perspective on diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace. She graduated from UW-Madison with a BA in Sociology and Geography with a Certificate in Environmental Studies. Her commitment for environmental and social sustainability inspires her to connect with business professionals, advocates, and entrepreneurs working to make Madison a great place to live for everyone.
