Step Up to Present at WI SHRM Conference
Kalahari Resort, Wisconsin Dells, WI on October 12, 2018
Step Up for Equity, a program focused on social change, will present a 1.25 credit hour course at the Wisconsin Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) 2018 Conference. The conference is at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells from October 10th through the 12th of this year.
On Friday, October 12th, at 10:00 am, representatives from Step Up: Equity Matters will present How Biases Shape and are Shaped by Culture. Amy Kesling, Tania Ibarra, and Gregg Potter will facilitate the personal and leadership development course in the Crown Palm Room.
The Step Up for Equity team describes the session as follows:
“Before we can start stepping up to make change happen in our workplace, we need to step inside. Understanding how we think and perceive the world is an important first step in creating sustainable change. This workshop offers an understanding of how biases shape our views of the people around us and how these biases can lead to discrimination. Participants will take time to reflect on their inner biases to learn how to move beyond guilt and toward positive intention and action.”
Participants will take away an understanding of basic characteristics of biases and how they are formed. They will practice recognizing, analyzing, and reframing their own biases.
